We helped them build Lemmi, an app that transforms complex financial advice into something as simple as checking your phone.
The Challenge
The statistics were stark. 39% of Kiwis couldn't access $5,000 within a week without going into debt. Half of all New Zealanders worry about money daily or weekly. And perhaps most concerning, 50% aren't prepared for retirement at all. There's a massive gap between those who can access quality financial advice and those who desperately need it but can't afford the traditional model.
Young people especially were locked out of wealth management services that had historically been the preserve of those who already had significant assets. New Zealand Financial Planning wanted to change this. They needed to take their decades of expertise and make it accessible to a completely new demographic.
How We Approached It
We joined NZFP on day one to bring their "democratising wealth management" vision to life. The challenge wasn't just about building an app. It was about creating an entirely new way for people to engage with their financial future.
We started with a deep dive into NZFP's market research, then moved into a technical discovery phase. The real complexity lay in the integrations needed to streamline what had always been a paper-heavy, relationship-dependent process. We had to connect everything from CRM systems to fund custodians, share registries, KYC verification, document exchange platforms, and personalised portfolio weighting systems.
All of this complexity had to disappear behind an interface that felt welcoming and enjoyable for young investors who might never have considered wealth management before.
What Made It Special
Most financial apps focus on tracking what you've already got. Lemmi does something different. It starts with who you are and where you want to go. The app identifies your risk profile, your behavioural patterns, and your life goals, then guides you to investment products that NZFP's team personally recommends.
But the real magic happens in the ongoing relationship. Lemmi doesn't just help you invest and disappear. It provides nudges, messages, scorecards, and resources to keep you on track. It celebrates your progress throughout your wealth-building journey, making financial planning feel less like a chore and more like a game you can win.
